Wiped out after two busy weekends: But had tons of fun!

I've spent the past 2 weekends being a Fiber Arts Ambassador :).  Setup a "microdisplay" (5'x5') which was perfect for just me, a couple Babes Fiber Garden Spinning Wheels.
I took a drying rack full of yarn. And my drop spindle earring display.

Oh yea, where did I do this?  I was at the Amana Woolen Mills,  I want to thank them for letting me "spin in the corner"!!!

I talked to more than a thousand folks over the two weekends (pretty sure of that).  Educated many many folks on the what goes on, just to make yarn, & they appreciated any knit or woven fabric by the time I was done.  I even remembered to make a mini-slide show on my tablet, so visitors could see my wool, my bunnies, one of them in the process of her 5-month clipping!

I'm pretty sure I'd like to go again.  I have some ideas for a "poster board" that gives historic educational information on Fiber & Fabric.  It should be easy & fun for visitors (hopefully customers).

I was "void of cards" I just didn't get time to print any.  But any person with a REAL desire for information on spinning, knitting, or anything else with fibers got a postcard w/ my name, email & phone number on it. :)

Many many thanks for the wonderful folks at the Amana Woolen Mill, for their "corner" and hospitality.

Hope to get there again soon!

What are we doing today for fun?

... well, Yesterday was Derrick' baby Aria's 2nd birthday.  We went to Marion to GmaGpa Held's house.  It was fun.
We continue to surprise Derrick with "splashes" from his & his brothers' child hood.  Yesterday, the toddler Rocking Chair.  Poof...recognize it?  Oh Wow!  :)  Paper flying, things going beep, cake, singing, all that stuff.  IDK if you know (or if anyone's reading anyway) but Derrick is a "manager" at Olive Garden in Cedar Rapids.  He was selected to go to the Olive Garden Culinary School, for a week.  In Rome, Italy. All Paid!
There was MORE FUN on the trip home, but I'll save that!   JLH

Fiber issue

I'm having a fling buying fleeces ala eBay...going to have plenty to do all winter!!!

Monday, November 10, 2014

more of a start, starting something, getting started, more than started... busy, busy, busy

It is NOVEMBER, omg!

I'm going to actually be posting things here more often, hopefully weekly! ?  Today is going to be the last "door open" day of 2014.  The ARCTIC arrives tomorrow.

OMG I have to find ~500# of pumpkins a home "inside" , they jumped in my pickup 2 weeks ago at the Amish Produce Auction.  It was a 44" Davenport 4 heddle loom, 4 weeks before that!  I'm going to store & can, and try drying (for the bunnies) and of course my Pumpkin Wine.  I'll have plenty of pumpkin carcass' to butcher, just need sugar & bloop, bloop, Co2 starts bubbling out!

Yea, and my cleaned off sewing machine, it's over piled again.   UGGGGG!

Duke has strained another ligament, this time in my R knee :(

Oh yea, and the sheep (no I didn't get sheep) I've been getting fleeces on eBay.  OMG, beautiful, HUGE, STINKY raw fleeces.  Maybe 25?  pffffttttttt....

I'll have to trade off, bottle washing and fleece washing, in my washtub and Maytag wringer washer (no agitator for these processes)  Oh but the wringer should be handy for getting a fleece into the drying process, and the boiler.

How could that face, pull too hard on anyone, "OH LOOK SQUIRREL" !   Never mind!

I forgot to mention the 10 bushel of black walnuts.  You know they are dual purpose (3x if you count Duke yelling at them)  Let them dry (the husk) whack it off, perfect brown dye, and a wonderful nut!

Things are coming together... mostly

It is much cooler here in Amana today, bunnies, puppies and I all feel better.  I was able to clear off my 1892 Singer 27-vs3 today.  I've started to sew more shopping bags.  My stock on them is getting lower, than I'd like.   Maybe next post I'll try to include a picture, I know I have, and will have plenty!
